  3. Revision Tips: Unit 3

    Set up a clear workspace,
    Drink plenty of water,
Have something to look forward to after revision.

-Begin by revising a particular topic for ten minutes prior to practicing your conversation to practice for how it would be for your actual oral exam.
-After your ten minutes, spend another ten on writing everything that you can remember down on paper. This will help to prepare you for when the actual exam takes place and will give you an idea as to what it's meant to be like. Be sure to link in things from other topics that you can remember- it will help you out a lot when it comes to actually speaking.
-I also personally think that 10 minutes should be spent reading revision over but then after that, you should try to teach another person the content they just learned to test themselves and further in-grain it in their memories.

Revise sentence patterns and structures you can easily transfer to all topics, e.g likes, dislike, agree, disagree etc

Make sure you have a reasonable knowledge of all topics, including the more difficult ones such as work experience

We were lucky and got a topic which we both knew well, but don't rely on luck and REVISE!!!!
The best advice we can give; no matter how cheesey it is, is don't worry and get too nervous as this will effect your performance and therefore your grades.

learning key sentence patterns i think are essential whilst revising for your exam. Also idioms were needed to prove to the examiner that you are capable of a high grade and were also helpful to link ideas or sentences together.

  16. having plans set for after revision can be a great source of motivation, a good reward. however this is best used when using block revision. Revising in large blocks isn't always the best way as allot of the information you take in won't stick.
By revising in short periods of time and doing it frequently is usually the most affective... especially of you don't have much interest for the subject.
Mindmapping and que cards are very affective to read around the house when doing simple tasks.

  29. The best way to revise for the exam is to test yourself, or get someone else to test you! Write some useful phrases down on a piece of paper yourself, and read them.
Or if you’re speaking, I find that it’s best to record yourself then play it to yourself instead of just listening to music!
Yep, you have a cringey voice, but it seems to work well enough :)

    When you sit your exam:

    1. Relax – tell yourself it’s easy and do whatever you need to do to keep calm

    2. Don’t be too competitive, but believe in yourself

    3. Don’t even try thinking about your result!!

    4. Be positive – and stay happy!

    5. Pre-exam, just say some phrases to yourself, and keep them going round your mind in the exam

  30. In my opinion it’s a very good idea to revise on what you think you don’t know enough about. Although you may need to go over the bits you are confident on I think it is very important you feel confident on every topic. The best way I used to revise was to make it fun. Using bright colours is a great idea because it helps to grab you attention when you are lacking in concentration. But you really do have to find the best way to revise for you. People use different ways to revise. Some people prefer to listen to themselves or others saying key phrases, or looking at it in graphs or mind maps. Another way to revise is to create actions for example: A wave may stand for hello, it is useful to help you remember.
When you are going into an exam I found it best not to try and remember everything and make sure you know it because it will make you stressed when you go in. Try to think positively about the exam. Talk to your friends about other topics other subjects and NOT ABOUT TEST RESULTS. Remember to stay calm. If you get nervous you may start to forget things which wouldn’t be good.
I don’t really have any WOW phrases but to calm my nerves in the exam i tried to add things i found funny. For example, i wrote “dw i’n hoffi froffi coffi” three times. This calmed my nerves loads.
    I hope this advice helps.
    Good Luck

Making a revision timetable so you know what to revise and how long you have to do it.
You should also work out how long you are going to spend on each question so you don't spend all your time on the first couple of questions.
For your coursework I would do 1 paragraph a night and then 2/3 days to go over it. I'm top of my class in welsh and nobody knows these amazing tips. Ly guys ;)

  32. Find out how many days you have left until the exam and then how many paragraphs you have. Try learning one once a day until the the day of the exam and on the final day just keep on repeating it. it helps closing your eyes so that your not concentrating on anything but gradually open them when your more confident

When revising for your exam in the summer it is important to remember and spend time looking over the simple sentence patterns and question words. You should also memorise the link words that are typed into you course book and the unit 1 exam revision book given to you by your teacher.

During the writing questions it is important to remember IIOPPAC- introduction, information, opinions, 3rd person, past tense, ambitious patterns and conclusion.

You could also drawp some cue cards to look over or make up some mnemonics to help you revise. These worked for us!

  34. I have been studying welsh now for around 3 years at cowbridge comprehensive and did the unit 1&2 of the GCSE this year. My advice for people who are going to do the exam is to revise all topics in your booklet as you can never be sure what may appear in the exam.

To learn all the topics I would buy the Collins revision book as it contains many mini tests which tests your knowledge.

Anyone viewing this who is going to do their exam soon should revise daily for about 1.30-3 hours. split your revision time in to grops of two or three as it is easier.

we found the best way to revise was to create mind maps and posters that you can see regularly. Also writing things out repeatedly really helped us remember difficult words to spell. Its really important to revise sentence starters to make sure you can vary your sentence starters. we also found learning basic vocabulary is helpful so you could talk about a range of topics easily.

when doing a controlled speaking assessments do not panic and keep your mind focussed on your work and not the people around you. make sure you dont think to hard about the test throughout the day. make sure you can pronounce all words otherwise you will panic in the test. sometimes having something to fiddle with can take the edge off nerves e.g. elasticband, pen or bracelet.

For writing assessments ensure you know basic sentence patterns in case you get confused or forget what your writing. you must use linkwords and 3rd person to make your writing flow. Like in the previous assessment do not panic!!!! and keep breathing (slowly)

If we did the tests again we would have made more of a plan in the writing assessment and watched the time VERY carefully. Also look over reading questions as they have the highest marks and can give you ideas for the writing. at the start of a writing test jot down any important phrases or words you want to use!

I hope this will help you and remember the most important thing is DONT PANIC!

I found the most important things to revise were the Past Tense and the 3rd Person, But then again that was the stuff I was less confident and not so sure on. So try and revise the topics that you are not so certain on more than the stuff you are confident on.

I found the best way to revise was in short intervals so your head does not get overloaded with information all at once. Also another good way to revise is to have something going on in the background e.g. listening to music or watching the t.v or have some sort of noise going on in the background!

When you are going in to an exam DONT PANIC!! For the controlled assessment make sure you are confident on everything because the more you panic beforehand the more likely you are going to forget things!! So just stay calm and blank out everything you can hear and see.

If I had the time again I would start to revise earlier than I did and try and learn more topics each week so I was even more confident on the key words and key phrases.

So don’t panic and make the most of the time you have got in the exam!!

    Writing and reading exams
When you are revising, you have to make sure that you learn all the vocabulary you have been given. It is also advisable to do sopme extra research so that you can pick up extra marks in the exam.
The easiest way I found to revise was to firstly just flick through all the work, trying to remember as much as possible. Then, the next time you go through ( doesn’t have to be straight afterwards), cover up the welsh version and try see how many english words you know in welsh.

First of all give yourself plenty of time to revise.
-Don’t leave revision ‘til last minute- It’s NOT a good idea.
    - Take regular breaks and don’t get frustrated. Take your time.
-When doing speaking assessments learn your paragraphs 1 at a time.
    -Have clear pronunciation and
    - Give yourself time to learn your paragraphs and make sure you speak clearly.
-Whatever you do DON’T PANIC!!! Have faith in your own abilities.
    A few useful phrases
-Dwi’n meddwl bod... (I think that...)
    -Ca dy geg! (Shut up!)
-i fod yn onest (to be honest)
    Hannah :)

  39. When it comes to your exams, it is very helpful if you set everything out clearly and neat. You need to make sure the examiner will understand what you have written. You also need to make sure you include as much different tenses and sentence patterns as possible to please the examiner.
In most cases, you walk into the exam hall, freeze up and not remember anything. Dont worry! just stay calm, and write what you know. if you dont know an answer, dont spend ages on it trying to figure it out. Just move on to the next question and come back to it later. Try not to leave any questions blank. A guess may get you marks but if you leave it blank, you are definately not going to get a mark!
when i did my GCSE, one of the most useful thing i used were the 'endings' of past tense verbs.
    e.g
    . gwisgAIS i = I wore
. gwisgON ni = WE wore
    . gwisgODD e = HE wore
. gwisgODD hi = SHE wore

These are very important to include when writing a paragraph in the past tense!

    REVISING TECHNIQUES
Espescially when revising for a speaking assessment, it is very important to revise.A great technique to use is listing out the different words in the vocabulary you are learning, look at them and say them, then when you are ready turn the page over and write them down on the other side. Then turn it over and check the results. This really get's the words stck in your head!
Colourful mind maps are good too, put them in your bedroom and learn a phrase everytime you go in and out. That'll really help.
