Any suggestions?

The Welsh Department need your help. Do you have any suggestions about how we can make our Llyfrau Iaith even better? Is there something you would like to know how to do? Is there something  you'd like to know more about? Is there something that works really well? Do you need more help? Have you spotted a mistake? What would you like to see more/less of? These are the questions we'd like you to think about.

Leave a comment below to help us improve our resources for you (remember to say which year group you're in).

Diolch yn fawr!

This year the ambitious vocabulary highlighted by the stars really helped when it came t classwork and even writing my GCSE script in some cases. The grouped vocabulary at the start of a topic was also handy because it was all in one place, However if the questions related to the topic could also be grouped near the key words it would have been a better help because then you can see how to link the key words with the sentences without flicking back and forth. Also the lessons ie) Gwers 1 and Gwers 7 did not tend to correspond with the lesson we were using, it's more of a hindrance than a help to have the lessons planned out beforehand

I lose my llyfr iaith very easily. Maybe we can find a way to attach them to our excercise books like we do in French? We use an envelope to keep everything safe.

Use 'top tips' to help us know how to improve our marks, e.g. using mwynhau is better than using hoffi.

Also, we want examples of what a level 1,2,3 etc piece of work looks like.

We would like a checklist of the basic patterns we need to know for each topic.

The assessment tracking sheet is in the opposite end of the book to the level ladders. Please can they go together?

on p8 ofthe llyfr iaith, the information in the table is clearer and easier to read than the information above. Please can we have more information in tables like this?

A glossary at the back with key vocab listed alphabetically would help

instead of 'gwers 1' please can we have titles which tell us what the lesson is about.

Also, we would like phonetic spellings for longer words.

I think it would be better if each new lesson was on its own page so it is clearer where each topic starts and stops.

We would like titles in welsh and Emglish to help us understand what they mean

  15. colour coding to show how hard that task is

  16. Putting key words next to phrases would be helpful, puting a context on the first page arranged with difficulty order such as hardest at the back pages and and easiest at the front would also be helpful.

I think that the writing should be bigger and thesubtitles should also be bigger the colour of the book could be a different colour like white or something a bit more Welsh themed. THe good part of the book is the English is next to the Welsh and its numbered and titled into sections.

  18. When it comes to your exams, it is very helpful if you set everything out clearly and neat. You need to make sure the examiner will understand what you have written. You also need to make sure you include as much different tenses and sentence patterns as possible to please the examiner.
In most cases, you walk into the exam hall, freeze up and not remember anything. Dont worry! just stay calm, and write what you know. if you dont know an answer, dont spend ages on it trying to figure it out. Just move on to the next question and come back to it later. Try not to leave any questions blank. A guess may get you marks but if you leave it blank, you are definately not going to get a mark!
when i did my GCSE, one of the most useful thing i used were the 'endings' of past tense verbs.
    e.g
    . gwisgAIS i = I wore
. gwisgON ni = WE wore
    . gwisgODD e = HE wore
. gwisgODD hi = SHE wore

These are very important to include when writing a paragraph in the past tense!

    REVISING TECHNIQUES
Espescially when revising for a speaking assessment, it is very important to revise.A great technique to use is listing out the different words in the vocabulary you are learning, look at them and say them, then when you are ready turn the page over and write them down on the other side. Then turn it over and check the results. This really get's the words stck in your head!
Colourful mind maps are good too, put them in your bedroom and learn a phrase everytime you go in and out. That'll really help.

There should be a section for each individual level, to give an indication of the criteria needed to achive thease levels. Also, a bit of couler and some pictures would help to brighten things up a liitle.

  20. I think that some parts of the booklet could be more useful at the front or back of your book.

It would be helpful if there was examples of writing and levels.

i believe that if the sections were in boxes rather than open that would help. also if the key words were in the right sections not the one after in some cases that would be better

    YEAR 9
we think that the boolet is useful but, i could have a little more pictures to make it stand out more and look more intresting. they need some little activity to make it more fun for the pupils.

To improve the booklet you could add:

A contents page which is more detailed.

All level info is kept in the same in the back booklet.

You could also add examples of High level work.

You could also colour code the work according to the level.

  25. This year the booklet has helped me and I know others in my class but, the content is not that detailed so when I go to look for a word or words so I don't really know where to look in the book

  26. This year the Llyfrau Iaith has really helped me in assessment revision and work during lessons. To improve the Llyfrau Iaith I think it would be best to have a contents page with lots to detail to make sure pupils have easy access to the correct pages.

  28. I think that the link words and describing words should be at the back of the book so you know where they are.

  30. I think that the llyfr iaeth booklets are very helpful during lessons because I can look a word or a sentence up, they also help me a lot at home when I'm doing revision. Personally I don't think they need improving.

The Llyfr Iaith is very helpful and is useful for preparing for assessments and helping with spelling in class. I think there could be a lot more dteail and clearer to use in certain places.
